The AN/FPS-85 LPAR, located in the Florida panhandle, is one of the primary space surveillance radars employed by the United States. The AN/FPS-85 can track 80% of the objects in space during a single 24-hour period. Construction began in 1962, with operational service commencing in February of 1969. The radar system is currently undergoing an upgrade designed to keep the complex operational until 2028.SOURCES
