its a fascinating (pre)morning here in telaviv.. im at the airport waiting to board a plane for a surf destination that (in accordance with my standard practice) i shall disclose once i get there..
but it is also a special day because it is erev yom kippur.. ie the eve of the day that we start our sunset to sunset (plus three stars) fast.. for those who dont know we are also supposed to avoid wearing leather having sex drinking and using perfume..
secular israel has long converted this day into a fun day of alternative transport flushing the streets with rollerblades bikes and any other form of personal wheels.. i wont be there this year to enjoy the "festivities"..
basking in the reflection of my world and my year i shall have a lot to think about - as one does - including the readings i went through this morning about the yom kippur war.. very very interesting.. wiki it.. seriously.. worth it.. i always thought i had a basic grasp of the idea but you think of it differently every time you read it..
how did they genuinely choose today all those years ago? our most sacred day? is nothing immuned from their will? are all means justified? harsh thoughts.. its in light of these that syria's announcement today about its intention to puruse peace is somewhat comforting.. maybe the leadership has reflected sufficiently to allow for change.. maybe we will trust them and maybe they will trust us..
pay particular attention to the remarks about israel's resolution to swap land for peace after 67.. and the arab summit with the "3 NOs"..
a lot to think about..
wishing us all gmar hatima tova..
ps - today at the gym while i was on the cross trainer i saw this video clip.. any thoughts?
