  New York Times writer Amy Harmon follows high school science teacher David Campbell’s efforts to reach students who’ve been raised as strict creationists, fighting a Florida political establishment that’s hostile to the science of evolution: A Teacher on the Front Line as Faith and Science Clash.

  Bryce came to Ridgeview as a freshman from a Christian private school where he attended junior high.

  At 16, Bryce, whose parents had made sure he read the Bible for an hour each Sunday as a child, no longer went to church. But he did make it to the predawn meetings of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a national Christian sports organization whose mission statement defines the Bible as the “authoritative Word of God.” Life had been dark after his father died a year ago, he told the group, but things had been going better recently, and he attributed that to God’s help.

  When the subject of evolution came up at a recent fellowship meeting, several of the students rolled their eyes.

  “I think a big reason evolutionists believe what they believe is they don’t want to have to be ruled by God,” said Josh Rou, 17.

  “Evolution is telling you that you’re like an animal,” Bryce agreed. “That’s why people stand strong with Christianity, because it teaches people to lead a good life and not do wrong.”

  Doug Daugherty, 17, allowed that he liked science.

  “I’ll watch the Discovery Channel and say ‘Ooh, that’s interesting,’ ” he said. “But there’s a difference between thinking something is interesting and believing it.”

  The last question on the test Mr. Campbell passed out a week later asked students to explain two forms of evidence supporting evolutionary change and natural selection.

  “I refuse to answer,” Bryce wrote. “I don’t believe in this.”

  As our Arabic proverb says: “The straw that broke the camel’s back.” This is how I can describe Obama’s move. The guy (Obama) is ignorant and naive when it comes to cases such as Israeli occupation of Palestine. And now he picks a guy who proudly says “I’m a Zionist.   Little Green Footballs and Pajamas Media are joining forces to send the undead creature known only as Zombie to the Convention, for the kind of exclusive, slightly bent coverage only an undead creature can provide.

  We have a full schedule of newsworthy stuff laid out, but you’ll just have to keep checking LGF because the Recreate 68 moonbats may act up and change our plans. We’ll be staying in touch with Agent Z minute by minute during the circus, through the magic of teh innernut.

  Zombie’s reports will begin tomorrow, the opening day of the Convention. The reports will appear simultaneously at LGF and PJ Media; here at LGF they’ll show up as front page articles just like the ones I post.

  Several boats full of Hamas-loving morons arrived in Gaza yesterday: Blockade-running boat activists tour Gaza Strip.

  “We are thrilled to be here,” said Greta Berlin, 67, an American activist and a founder of the California-based Free Gaza movement, which organised the trip.

  “We could not believe it when we saw the shore,” she told reporters in Gaza City. “(It) was one small step for humankind and one giant step for Palestine.”

  Oh, please.

  Meanwhile, many Palestinians who turned out to welcome them were disappointed that the self-aggrandizing morons didn’t bring them any food.

  Palestinian disappointment: A Gaza activist told Ynet Saturday that local residents were disappointed by the small quantities of food brought in by two boats carrying international leftist activists.
  
  “Many people thought these boats will make a significant contribution to break the siege, not only politically but also in terms of brining in goods, equipment, food, and medicine,” he said. “However, once it turned out these boats contain too little food and mostly activists ... some people left the beach disappointed.”

  Calling Srugim Number Nine...

  Did any of you go to the Cinematheque in Jerusalem to see Srugim? Or meet the characters? Or see Laizy the Director?
  
  Did any of you see episode #9? I missed it so far, becauce I was in the USA last Monday on behalf of Nefesh b'Nefesh (I still have one or two more posts to write about that, as well as the JBlogger conference).
  
  However, life in Israel goes on. If you thought I was going to let a trip to the US prevent the Muqata blog from getting exclusive pictures of Laizy, "Yifat" and "Amir" -- you have got to be kidding. (We all have our priorities).
  Note: These pictures are NOT photoshopped and are 100% authentic.

  

  Last week, Laizy, together with Amos Tamas (Amir) and Yael Sharoni (Yifat), showed up at my yishuv. Not wanting to miss out, my oldest grabbed our handy "Muqata" banner (used exclusively for Aliya Homecoming arrivals and Srugim cast appearances) and made sure to take some pictures with Laizy and cast.
  Come on, what could be cooler?
  
  Fine, I'm sure the "Lion of Zion" will make some snarky remark about Srugim being a soap opera, but I have yet to find anyone who dislikes the show.

  Homemade is best

  So my kitchen sink again got itself unusable last week (it may be the coffee grinds doing it as I have a “rinse-out” filter and when you shake it over the trash can you still get a good bit stuck to the sides of the filter that needs to be washed or you’ll have bitter, gross coffee). I spent 30 sheks on poisonous drain-out again and still nothing was wanting to drain –literally taking half an hour to drain out the smallest amount of water. In desperation I went online to see if there was something, anything I could do and found a simple recipe using just the household products of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and vinegar. What the hell, I thought, let’s give it a try as I have nothing to lose.

  So in went nearly half a cup of baking soda with (the recipe called for an equal amount of vinegar but I ended up using nearly double for it to be effective) vinegar poured into the drain on top of it. Fizz, fizz, fizz. Yeah, the reaction made lots of fizziness but was it going to work…I waited for an hour and then flushed it down with a kettle-full of boiling water. The first kettle-full seemed to open up a small hole in the blockage but the water still backed up. I heated another kum-kum full and SQWUAP down it all went draining merrily. I followed up with two more boiling kettle fulls just to make sure but wow, for like 4 sheks and no poison I now have a functioning sink.

  I was somewhat domestic yesterday as my apartment had gotten into a pre-Ema-visiting-and-cleaning state. I did the Ema-thing and got down on my hands and knees and cleaned the living-room floor with a sponge. Then I went over it again with two clothes that still turned brown! (And yes, I mop with the floor cloths every day so it is not like I am a complete sloth or something).

  I also went to the beach for a half-hour swim yesterday in the very late afternoon. I’d tried all day to work on a paper but got less than nothing done on it. I simply could not concentrate at all. But now I have a clean living-room floor and a working sink again
