This time the alarm was closer. It took the kids about 2 seconds to disappear from the street. My parents, Leonardo (our dog) and I went all to the shielded room and waited until we heard the fall (which was in a close neighborhood).
There are sirens now, police and ambulances driving around. The kids are back in the street now, though the mothers shout to them to stay in the parking place and not go far.
Now I can understand why the people of Sderot feels so left out - as opposed to previous wars (including the last one with Lebanon) - it looks like nobody cares. The radio says nothing, TV continues as usual, even Ynet takes about 5 minuted to update and even then it’s only in the little scrolling updates - nothing on the front page or anything.
It’s only us and the rockets, and there is a feeling everybody else doesn’t care.
I’m going back to my apartment in the center this evening, have a meeting with a good friend who just came back from the UK. But my parents stays here and I already knows I’ll be worried sick.
update 4:50: While I won’t say exactly where the 2 rockets have hit, I’ll tell you it’s in the west side of the city. So far 3 wounded reported - 1 person was wounded medium and 2 light. Military helicopters keep fly back and forth over our heads here and I think I can also heard a few sounds of our artillery. Let’s hope they hit all the right targets.

Please know that PEOPLE DO CARE. Even people 6,000 miles away. Baltimore is Ashkelon’s sister city in the U.S. Last night, the THE ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore sent the message below to the community. I went online to see if I could find more than news coverage and discovered your blog. I’m checking regularly. You are not alone. Kol Tuv.

As we prepare for Shabbat, we want to alert you to the developing crisis in Baltimore’s sister city of Ashkelon. According to latest reports, Palestinians fired about a dozen Grad rockets into the city limits of Ashkelon, including one that scored a direct hit on a residential building. Representatives from the Israel Defense Force (IDF) met with residents throughout the city instructing them on what to do in case of more rockets and handing out brochures. The Barzalai Medical Center is asking for help in fortifying its emergency room, maternity ward, and surgery center.
We want you to know that:
More than 30 rockets have fallen on Ashkelon since Thursday. One rocket slammed through the roof of an apartment, injuring a 17 year old. Fifteen people were treated for shock since the barrage of rockets began earlier this week.
One rocket landed in a parking lot of Barzalai Medical Center in Ashkelon, which is the major hospital of the southern costal area of Israel.
Ashkelon has activated the Code Red warning system which will alert Ashkelon residents to incoming rockets.
It is feared that over the next few days and weeks a full-blown war may break out and Ashkelon may suffer additional missile fire.
We are in close contact with the leadership and government of the city of Ashkelon and expect to know by early next week how our Baltimore community can mobilize in response to Ashkelon’s immediate needs.
As many of you know, the sea-side city of Ashkelon is near and dear to the hearts of Baltimoreans since the inception of our sister-city partnership just a few short years ago. The shared mission, vision and values of our communities make the link between Baltimore and Ashkelon very strong. Over the past five years, thousands of families, teens, college students, professionals, educators and business men and women visited both Baltimore and Ashkelon through sister city partnership exchanges.
Israel’s southern city of Sderot has been under daily attack for many months now. As the conflict expands into Ashkelon, our thoughts and prayers are with our friends this Shabbat.

Thanks Robin.
And I also send my thanks to the community in Baltimore.
I know people care, I’ve just expressed the immediate feeling you get when you just had missiles falling around and noting on the Radio/TV says it…
