A Peek into a Mind

Gmar Hatima Tova

Yom Kippur is over and to sum it up - it wasn’t too hard. The only problem is that it was quite hot and since we couldn’t drink we had to make sure the house will stay cool. Part of that things went easy.

After eating I was sent to check the news on the net, since the Israeli TV channels will not be back in the air until 20:00. The news were pretty much what we expected. The Hizbulla (which gets orders from Syria) attacked the northern border. Israel returned fire. Lebanon claimed Israel sent up helicopters to attack cars but the IDF said there were no helicopters used and the Israeli side mostly returned local fire (personal guns fire and stuff like that).

Syria also had the UN security council assembled, hoping to have it condemn Israel for the attack. However, it all turned against them when the US had publicly condemned Syria itself, protected Israel’s right to defend itself and declared that Syria must switch sides in the war on terror. The Israeli representative, Dani Gilerman, was reported to give an excellent speech where he compared the Syrian call for assembling to the Taliban calling a condemnation to the US after Sept. 11. (CNN report)

I’ve only been brief cause you can read al the details in the news sites. However, I do have several words of my own to say about these issues.

First, just to make it clear, there is quite a bit of hard criticism on the decision to attack in Syria. None of us loves them, of course, and we all know they support and finance terror against us (Hizbulla most of all but also the Hammas, Islamic Jihad, Popular Front and other organizations). However, it seems the attack was more an act of desperation then against a real target.

Update: Head of Intelligence arm in the Army appeared on TV and said the decision to attack that camp came quite a while back, after the Jerusalem Bus terror attack (aka “The Kids Bus Attack”), and was not carried out then. Information the army got indicated the order to carry the Hafia attack came from the Islamic Jihad HQ in Damascus, and that’s why the old decision was carried out now.

I currently see a no-win situation in the area since only real peace could stop the violence, and no peace can be seen in the distance. I don’t believe any forceful measures can solve the situation. We tried Force. We tried occupying the territories and having a military control. We tried endless fighting. On the other hand we tried peach more then once. More then twice. Hell, I bet the best ever peace plan offered to the Palestinians was offered by Barak (slim chances he could have approved it in OUR government!) . For a matter of fact, no future peace plan will ever offer them as much as they could have gained there. But no. This didn’t want it.

So Fighting didn’t work. and Peace didn’t work. Hell, I have absolutely no regrets for anything right now since I know Israel have tried everything. It’s the Palestinian leadership that is the fault. 100%. Still, I don’t care whose to be blamed. I want peace - I need peace - but as long as the Palestinian refuse to sign it (sorry let me rephrase it - as long as they are willing to sign it but not to fulfill it!) I don’t see a stop to the blood flowing around here. And excuse me for not being Christian (I’m a Jew, after all) I’m strongly against giving the other cheek. If they continue to kill my people, we’re not going to give them easier lives. No sir.

And with all due respect for the stupid (sorry, should be in bold - stupid) Europeans, we all seen what you have done in much better situations. Algeria (France massacred there all over), India, Spain in south america, Portugal, Russia, England… (I won’t even mention Germany - it got a league for itself) History is pretty clear. However, when Israeli is fighting on being able to LIVE in their country - well, suddenly we’re committing inhuman crimes. Yeah, right.

Don’t get me wrong, though. Palestinians deserves a country. Independent country. (No, I don’t think they should go to Jordan, stop asking. Jordan is a friendly country and they have their own share of Palestinians.) They should have a real country, in Gaza strip, in the West Bank. Israel should (and will, when a real peace will be signed) give up most settlement. Only big settlements centers will stay and proper land will be given to Palestinians for that. Let them live their own lives and leave us alone.

Well, it’s 20:00 now. I’ll go see the news on TV.
