| Exams, Comments and Real Life |
I’m up to my neck with stuff to do, exams on top of the list. Anyway, Just thought to bring up several recent comments that people left here, and reply.
I got this from John Maher of Ireland : “Yoy have nobody but yourself’s to blame. Sharon should be put on trial for war crimes he is another Hitler.” This adds up to some reports from friends whe have traveled to Ireland lately about the support of the Irish republicans in the palestinians. I was told that in belfast the republicans are hanging palestinian flags on the street wires and the unioninsts, as a retaliation, are hanging Israeli flags…
I know I’m not suppose to feel this way but I was a little hurt. I’ve travled in Ireland, fell inlove with the country and people, read also about the struggle for independence from the brittish. Now, I didn’t felt any need to side any of the sides in the conflict, though I personally liked the Irish republic better for the atmosphere it had (I was a tourist, after all…) But hearing the people and the land I adore all support the palestinian terrorism does makes me feel a little backstabbed… And announcing Shron is like Hitler is extremely provocative, since it is well knowen the holocaust is a weak spot in all jews point of view.
On with it. The horrible terror attack in my university made several people add comments with their sympathy. Rean even posted it on his site (in dutch). Thanks to nicole, Abby and everybody else…
Eddie Vassallo asked “would you let me know if things are reasonably safe enough for a visitor — or if this is simply a bad time to consider being a tourist.” Well, Eddie, you said you don’t like living in fear and canceling important things just for that. Thos of us around here which are like you, do not avoid going around to do our stuff. Do I reccomand travelling in Jerusalem right now? As long as you’re on the west side you have a low risk (like in the rest of the country). Please notice a ‘low risk’ isn’t a ‘no risk at all’. The things on the eastern side might be a little less safe, but your risk of getting stabbed when you look like a tourist is much lower then mine, as an Israeli. All in all, if you plan to come to Israel on business or visiting friends I don’t think you should cancel it. If you want, however, to tour around Israel I would suggest waiting. There is too much security blocks and preventions and you will feel you can’t go see everything there is (and there is a lot).
Sergio from Catalonia - I don’t remember claiming Catalonia is part of spain…
A serious note - to people that calls for “kill all muslims!” (not mentioning any names, though it’s not a problem going over the comments page…):
I do not think ‘all muslims should be killed’ or any of the sort. Yes, there is a serious and bloody dispute in Israel. No, I do not think Israel is doing any war crimes, at least not at intention - Specific soldiers who are violating orders SHOULD be caught and sentence by the army court, like any criminal soldiers. I think any of the terror attacks against israeli civilians is much worse then anything Israel is doing. To my opinion, there is only one solution to this mutual-killing, which is an independent palestinian state.
However, such a state must rise out of PEACE AGREEMENTS and not from VIOLANCE. The palestinian leadership has failed time after time to sign such agreements, hoping terror will ultimatly lead to the total destrution of Israel. To my opinion, the palestians are still hoping to eliminate Israel totally, they just now realize that they cannot do it with force. I do not think palestinians, civillians, that have nothing to do with the terror should suffer. I do think they should be treated as human beings and should recieve all the support they can get restoring a normal life. But it will not happen as long as the schools are teaching HATE, as long as the PA officials takes the support money to their own pockets and to finance more terrorism.
To sum it up - I do think the palestinian people should have their own country, live honorable normal life like anywhere in the world. It’s just a matter of signing an agreement both sides can live with, and currently, the palestinian side have no one such a document can be signed with, which makes the violance continue.
Last note - to Rita who asked “Where did you find time to learn English between all your math and science classes?” - Hmm… You’re probably not aware of it, but like most of the western world, Israeli kids learns English from 3rd grade on. Universitys requires english skills to be accepted as a student in the first place… ![]()
