Eurovision Broadcast

Eurovision is over now, Israel on the 12th place, Latvia won and Malta 2nd. First I want to state I’m not a eurovision fan, and if not for Moonlight, I wouldn’t’ be sitting and watching it. Didn’t watch it for several years, tell you the truth. But still, if we watch it - better enjoy it.

All in all it was a nice show. Made moonlight and me sleep late and get up early to catch the bus to Jerusalem to reach our lectures on time, but hey, atleast we had fun.

Anyway, here is my review of the contest:

The first song, Cyprus, was done by a boys-band. awful. UK had a nice, forgettable, song though the singer wore a *hmm* nice outfit… Austria had a cute singer, moonlight and my mom noticed that first, but the song had nothing in it. The greek song “S.A.G.A.P.O” was embarrassing. REALLY! I wouldn’t even accept it to the contest… Spain.. well, spain got a decent amount of points, though the song wasn’t my favorite. Estonia had a cool song, with a nice looking swedish singer, the Russians had a song that looked more american to me (specially with the cool afro guy, a michael Jackson competible).

The Croatian song was good, but the best part of it was the singer! She looked great! (Moonlight blamed me for drooling when it was on, and I’m probably going to get into troubles for writing this here, also…) Can’t really remember anything from the Macadonian song except the singer’s armour-like dress.

Our own song, Israel, was good as well, but we took into consideration that with the recent public opinion in the world (someone said antisemism?!) we’ll hardly get any points. Anyway, I’ve heard the song too many times the past weeks so I can’t objectively comment it. (I’m sure lots of people in Israel are blaming political issues on our current rank, which I think is partly true. Still, there were some very good songs this year and the constest wasn’t easy).

I can’t really remember anything about Switzerland, Bosnia-Hetzegovina and Denmark, but Sweden was EXCELLENT. I’ve tried to vote for it on the phone (after a little debate with Moonlight since I also liked Finland’s song a lot). Finland had a rhythmic song that was great, even though my mom and Moonlight tried to decide weather its a male ot a female singing it… Belgium sent a very good ROCK song to the contest, which was obviously not going to win, but was something I’d enjoy listening driving a car.

France had an impressive song from an exact Salin Dion clone, I was pretty upset with the french for singing in French even though everybody else tried to sing in english or have some english in their songs. The stupid french woman giving the results couldn’t even say the counties and the points in english, man! (I know, I know, Israel got 10 points from them, but I still think the whole snobbish attitude of “we’re French and our culture is superior” shit sucks big time). Still, the song was good, I can’t take that away from them.

The German singer had a nice song but what really moved me was the fact that she’s blind. I would give her 12 points only for the efforts! Turkey presented, as always, a song which can be described as ‘fun!’. The girls looked well… ehmm.. Good thing we had the Croatian singer… ;) Now Malta! Malta was my favorite all along while the voting took place, but it ended up 2nd, unfortunately. That Latvian song that changed 3 outfits won. hmpf!!

Romania had an AWFUL song, I was totally shocked when some countries gave it high scores, the song was horrible! (not to mention the singers) The funny part was that we, israel, gave it many points. go figure. The slovenian song featured 3 drag-queens and was supposed to be kicked off the contest before going on stage. It just embarrassed the Slovenians. Latvia won, as all of you know, giving a good show with the good looking singer changing 3 outfits. The song was nice, I admit, but Malta’s (and sweden’s!) was better. Lithuania sent a cute boy with a tendency to lean to the right when he sings. But he was a small fish in a sharks’s ocean.

Well. That was the 2002 Eurovision for you, see you next year in Latvia! :-)
